Implementing Universal Design for Learning Strategies
A look at how an LMS can help you implement your Universal Design for Learning strategies in providing multiple means of representation, interaction, and engagement. An overview and explanation of the key principals and guidelines that make up the UDL framework. Differentiate accessibility from accommodation. Discuss briefly the research and validation of this model (by CAST and others) — but will put it more generally in terms of inclusive design vs accommodation. I will use examples of universal design familiar to us in everyday life to motivate why Universal Design for Learning is an effective framework to ensure ALL students succeed, regardless of background or how ‘average’ they are. I will provide several strategies and examples for how existing online instruction can be tweaked to have big benefits for all learners AND how faculty can create strategies with UDL to actually give themselves some time back!
